Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley is perhaps a name you associate with the NBA. He was certainly one of the best basketball players of his time who has now retired. In terms of playing basketball he was best known for his ability with rebound balls. He was also great at getting the scores needed to win. Charles Barkley has two nicknames: Mound of Rebounds and Sir Charles. Anyone in the celebrity field seems to get a nickname or two.

Barkley was an active player through the 90s, but has become an analyst for sports now. He typically talks about the games that are broadcast on TNT. What most do not realise about Charles Barkley is that he gambles. To those who know him he is a compulsive gambler. He will gamble and create a lot of debt, which has in some ways cost him some publicity. Of course a bad story about a celebrity doesn’t always hurt. It at least keeps the name alive.

Barkley has been betting ever since he retired from the games. He tends to visit Las Vegas casinos often, as well as betting on sports. During his career it is not known whether he gambled, but given that he always played a great game it is most likely he did not try any sports betting at that time. There have been plenty of athletes who have unfortunately bet on their own games and tried fixing games. Luckily we can say that Sir Charles kept to playing the right way.

The Wynn was actually worried about getting the money he owed given his high debt, so they publicly announced the gambling addiction Barkley has. It has cost Barkley in some ways. He does not hide his addiction though. He has actually stated in an interview with Trey Wingo that he lost around $10 million through gambling.

In one situation he actually made a bet of $2.5 million over a six hour time stamp. This was a loss while playing blackjack. Barkley has stated he has a bad habit, but he also states he can afford it. As long as he can pay for the gambles he makes then he will continue to enjoy his hobby. Barkley does not feel it is a major problem. He said if he was into drugs or alcohol then yes it would be a bad addiction. It is certainly a bad habit, but you have to have a vice.

Barkley has not only lost, but he has also won major bets too. It means that while he continues to win and lose and be able to afford the habit he will continue to gamble. One can ask “and why not?” If a person can afford something that is not hurting them why not enjoy it? Most of us dream about having the cash enough to live comfortably without debts. When you can pay off any debt you make then why not have a little fun, as long as you are honest about the situation.
