Poker has changed since its beginnings. We can trace the concept of poker through several centuries where home games were played, games of strategy were played by kings, and eventually gambling halls became prominent. In the 1900s things began to change to where secret games were all the rage until legalised gambling. Finally, towards the 70s Poker was seen as a professional career and the World Series of Poker was started. It did not stop the illegal games being run, but at least it started to change how many looked at such a game. It has opened up the doors to serious players of the 21st century like Daniel Negreanu.
Negreanu has not always had luck. It is in the last few years that he has managed to make some great wins, but when he first began his life and beginning in poker it was not such a rosy story of success. Rather, his early life was one his parents probably were not too happy with considering their sacrifices. They arrived in Canada from Romania as a means to start a better life for their children. The trouble with Daniel, if you want to call it that, was his lack of following the rules. He was threatened with being expelled from school because of not wanting to follow the rules. He was also quite ambitious in terms of wanting to go out and make money, even in his early life. It was around 15 that he started learning poker and declared he would make it his profession. Before that he said he would be a professional snooker player.
This passion for all things risky in games like pool, sports betting, and poker drove him to spend much of his teen years hustling. Given his lack of time in school it was going to be impossible for him to earn a degree and move on to any further education. Negreanu did not seem to mind this since he started his career as a Rounder, which is someone who goes round to find any poker game available.
Life didn’t always work out for Negreanu though. He dated for a short time with Evelyn Ng, but left her behind to try out Vegas. Unfortunately his young 22 years of life was not enough in experience of poker to earn him a successful professional career at the time. He ended up broke and had to make his way back home in order to gain more funds to try yet again.
Poker is not the only fun in life for Daniel Negreanu. Instead he has turned to NHL, Golf, and being a philanthropist. As of 2012 Negreanu has managed to earn his way to four WSOP bracelets. Not only does he have those, but he also has 2 in the World Poker Tour. Negreanu is most likely going to be on the poker tour for several more years due to his passion for the game. Though his early life was riddled with less success he has gained the experience now to be a top player.
